Katarina began to skate when she was five years old. Her natural talents was more evident and she was accepted into the Karl-Marx-Stadt school that specializes in kids with a sporting talent. The coach Jutta was also at the school. Witt had her first breakthrough year in 1982 after she placed second at the World Championships held in Copenhagen. Her graceful style and elegance of Witt drew the attention of everyone and she has been a dominant figure skater ever since. Olympic success Katarina Wit took home gold in ice skating for women during the Sarajevo Winter Games 1984 after an intensely competitive contest. Four years later she was able to win an even tighter contest. Even though she fell short in the free-skating competition, the gold medal was awarded to her performances on the mandatory figures and the short program. Witt became the first female repeatedly crowned winner of figure skating after Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame After enjoying great success in the field of acting, Witt returned to the sport to compete at the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Games. Though she failed to take home a single gold medal, she was awed by fans even with the fact that she finished seventh. Witt's induction into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame occurred in the year 1995.
